Halloween in Lahaina
The Hoʻōla Maui team joined together with partners from the Lahaina community for Halloween at Whalers Village, the shopping center next door to Hoʻōla Maui’s base of operations. As field crews and office staff wrapped up their day of work, they eagerly changed into fresh shirts and walked over to join the festivities as community volunteers. They spent the evening passing out candy and spending time with local families, to help make the holiday fun and joyful for the keiki of Lahaina.
Halloween in Lahaina has always held a special place in Hawaiʻi. Legendary for the festivities that unfolded each year on Front Street, this holiday has woven itself into the lore of Lahaina’s culture and community. In the midst of these challenging times for local families impacted and displaced by the Maui wildfires, the holiday has taken on a different significance. It is at once a milestone of loss, and also a moment to find new joy and hope as a community.
As part of the celebration, Hoʻōla Maui project employees joined in on the festivities at Whalers Village’s Halloween Classified Car Show wonderland. They distributed candy to trick-or-treaters and actively participated in the Halloween events. The Kāʻanapali Halloween Bash featured a vibrant lineup of family-friendly activities and crafts, including face painting, tattoos, candy-bag decorating, and sweet treats generously given out by participating merchants.
Being a part of this effort - the action of Hoʻōla, bringing forth new life - is more than a commitment to the highest level of execution on a clean-up contract. Hoʻōla Maui team members embrace a deeper kuleana, to support this community in a wide variety of ways, leading with compassion and aloha. In this time of tragedy and pain, the bonds of community are ultimately what will carry Lahaina forward.
